a (mostly) great first day

Well things went off without any major issues. We dropped him off at 6:30am and straight away he ran off to play on the huge indoor jungle gym in the center of the complex. When David & I were ready to leave we said "Say Bye-bye, Lochie!" and he burst into tears and fussed...because he thought we were taking him home and he wanted to stay! Once he had that sorted out though he kissed us both quickly and ran off to play with his new playfriends. He has made 2 little friends already - a boy with a huge curly, blonde afro called Bradley and a small, slender dark-haired boy named Corbin. Checked on him throughout the day and he was just fine.

He got a daily info card - you'll notice it is circled both 'happy' and 'ornery'! (For Aussies: they use that word a lot here - especially up here in the Northwest I notice. It means 'disagreeable and contrary in disposition; cantankerous'!). When David picked him up in the afternoon he was staging a sit-in! He had been given a time-out for throwing a huge temper tantrum because they had tried to gather the children for story time, and he wanted to keep playing on this fantastic jungle gym they have in the center of the room. When he was told he had to leave the play equiptment and return to his classroom he chucked a huge wobbly (For Yanks: Aussie term for major meltdown!). When David came in he was having a time-out on a huge round soft bed of cushion and had buried his face in it, with his legs tucked up under him and his bum sticking up in the air! When he heard David's voice he jumped up right away but looked a little shame-faced... Miss Emma asked him to come over to her and handed him his daily report and said "Go give that to your Daddy, Lachlan" and David said he reluctantly came over and handed his card to him - like a kid turning over a bad report card from school! David said it was all pretty funny and he and the teacher had a chuckle. Miss Emma said aside from that little incident, everything had gone just fine and he played so well. When they had outdoors play Lochie just had a blast and ran around under the trees and played in the sandpit the whole time. He seemed to really love it and was *so* vocal last night - singing, talking loudly in silly voices and jabbering on in his own language - probably telling us about his day!

Lochie = "happy/ornery"...
Yosemite Sam = just plain ornery!
